We have two small dogs that we would like to bring with us on a daytrip to Kelley's Island. We have never been there before. Can you bring dogs on the ferry? Are there any other ruled we should know about for dogs on the island?

Great question - I am in a similar situation where I will be traveling out there with 2 dogs. I look forward to hearing the answers to your question.

The island is very dog friendly. You should keep them on a leash, but other than that, no special restrictions. As you purchase ferry tickets, the ticket taker, will give you a dog bone for the dog.
If you go to the brewery, and sit outside, your dog can sit beside your table, and the server will bring them water. The winery also has tables in the grass, so you can have your dog there also.
If you are walking from the ferry/marina to downtown, the first road you pass, has a large park in about 2 blocks. If you want the dog to play in the surf, look across the water way into the marina, there are shelter houses there and a large beach, and I have seen dogs off leash there, playing in the surf.
Hope this helps.
