Battle of Lake Erie Bicentennial
Join the area festivities at one of the largest celebrations in the history of Lake Erie and its western basin by including Kelleys Island as a Host for a Tall Ship!
In September 2013 Tall Ships representing the U.S./Great Britain will gather together for this celebration. Navy and crew members will board one of the Tall Ships setting sail to a re-enactment of the War of 1812’s Battle of Lake Erie at the actual battle site. A parade of sail will take place along the shorelines and in many of the host ports prior to the event.
Kelleys Island is a Host Port for a Tall Ship, which will be docked at Portside Marina. Visitors will be able to tour the ship for a nominal boarding fee and Pre-paid Day or Evening cruises will be scheduled accordingly. Everyone is invited to partake in island-wide festivities including a parade, music and entertainment, art and craft festival, food vendors and loads of fun for the entire family.
Kelleys Island participation in this celebration is made possible by a partnership of all island associations, businesses, groups, organizations and societies. All of us working together will create a 3-day event that will be enjoyed and remembered by all.
