frist visit to the island - bike or car? 2007/08/23 22:17
I'll be making my first trip to Kelleys Island with my family - we plan to visit for just the day. We are considering bringing our bikes but not having been there before I am wondering how navigable the island is by bike. The other alternative would be to bring the car instead. Having a car would allow us to bring more stuff - beach towels, umbrella and a cooler - more stuff than we could carry by bike. I welcome any input on this -

Thanks!

The island is very navigable by bicycle. Parking at the dock on Marblehead is $8, plus $6 per bike roundtrip. A car is $26 roundtrip. You might check with the ferry, because I've heard rumors of charging for bikes on the back of cars. 419-798-9763.

Bike:
can go almost anywhere without to much effort
can have back packs to carry things
doesn't contribute to global warming
i don't think there is any charge for the ferry

only con is that you might have to pay for parking at marblehead

Car:
can carry way more stuff
kids dont get tired

cons: have to pay more, contributes to global warming, such as small island you can practically walk anywhere so its a complete was of gas.

Hope i helped
